Every second Saturday of the month the
Studio hosts an open
discussion group—The
Second Saturday Salon—which meets at our large 2nd floor loft on Colley
Avenue in historic Ghent, Norfolk. The Salon is patterned
after groups
held at the turn of the last century in which artists and intellectuals
gathered to share their thoughts and perspectives.
Now in its
tenth year,
the Salon is a venue
open to
all in the community
who wish to engage in stimulating conversation and social camaraderie
.
The
mission of The Second Saturday Salon:
To create a living and growing community in which greater wisdom, joy and
clarification can be found. This is accomplished by nurturing an atmosphere in
which we can socialize, respectfully share ideas and engage in discussion.
Through this process we illuminate our shared journey and expand our
consciousness of the human condition.
Discussions
have focused on
wide-ranging topics
such as the changing political landscape, the
nature of intimate relationships, the impact of fear in our daily lives,
mystical experience, the nature of consciousness, "Things that push our
buttons" and "What is this thing called love?"
The size of the group
varies on average between 15 and 40 people each month. The evening starts with
hors
d'oeuvres,
wine, beer and soda that group members bring for the occasion. After the
social hour, lively discussion rules! No one is required to speak and though
the group has a leader to keep us on track, there is neither hierarchy
nor formal guidelines for interaction. While many new faces are seen at each
meeting, a core of "regulars" attend on a consistent basis. At the close of
each meeting, the group decides on the next month's topic.
Please join us. We look
forward to seeing you there!
