Man
is never helped in his suffering by what he thinks for
himself, but only by revelation of a wisdom greater than his own.
It is this which lifts him out of his distress.
-C. G. Jung
This workshop
is for professionals who wish to work in greater depth with
their clients while facilitating more rapid healing. Our
one and one-half day session offers therapists and counselors practical skills
for understanding the language of their dreams--their own and
their clients’.
The perspective of this didactic and
experiential workshop is that dreams reflect not only our
problems and "stuck" places, but always point to a new
and healing solution.
They are the consummate problem solving tool and provide a
strong sense of empowerment for ourselves and our clients. As
such, dreams are a natural and powerful supplement to the work
of healing.
Dreams provide a
non-judgmental and compassionate mirror that reflects our clients' ongoing progress
in
the healing Journey. Through dreamwork we help our clients discover the
reservoir of impartial wisdom within us all.
In this workshop you will learn:
-
The abundant evidence in science and the
arts for dreams as a source of creativity and
problem-solving.
-
How to help clients focus dreams for the
purpose of solving impasses .
-
The nature of nightmares and recurrent
dreams, their great healing potential and how to distinguish
between nightmares and PTSD dreams.
You'll also deepen your understanding of how dream content
creates a “tension of opposites” that leads to awareness of a
healing “third” perspective or corrective experience that reconciles
chronic conflict, enriches conscious perspective in waking life and
releases suffering.
Mindful Dreaming teaches the
simple metaphorical language of dreams. Within every dream there is an
ever-present tension between our five favorite ego strategies at the basis
of our suffering and the five perennial values of our wiser Self that serve
as a universal corrective experience:
Dreams encourage us to release our ego’s preference for distraction and to
embrace the healing consciousness of stillness and solitude; Relaxing our
grip on control, dreams open us to humility and to guidance from the Source.
Mindful of our destructive rush to judgment, dreams help us embrace
compassion for our own suffering—not just that of others. Helping us see
through the illusion of permanence, they teach us to release attachments and
grieve the limitations and losses that life imposes. Most importantly,
dreams teach us mindfulness of our impatience so that we may live more
consciously and more fully embrace the present moment.
Participants will learn to:
• Identify and amplify the corrective experience present in every
dream.
• Identify the five habitual ego strategies found in dreams and increase clients’
awareness of the suffering these
strategies create in every day life.
• Apply bodywork methods with dreams including embodiment of Dream
Mentors, holding the somatic tension of opposites between mentor and
dream
ego, amplifying the emotional core of a dream.
• Integrate lessons learned from clients’ dreams in the everyday
work of
therapy.
• Apply the principles of mindfulness and Mindful Dreaming in
therapeutic work
even when clients do not recall or are uninterested
in dreams.
• Learn ethical guidelines and standards of practice for working
with dreams in
therapeutic setting.
Clinically
Assess each dream for the:
• Presence of Five Dysfunctional Thoughts
that create the greatest
suffering in dreams and waking life.
• Presence of Five Perennial Values that
Comprise the universal
Corrective Experience.
• Current Emotional State of the Dreamer
in waking life.
• Dreamer's (Client's) Attitude Toward Change and Growth—Degree
of
Resolve.
• How the Dreamer's Ongoing Mood and
Emotional Adjustment are
Changing in Waking Life (for better or
worse)
